Mary Eagles can keep the eggs very warm even in the coldest temperatures....just need to keep them dry too....the snow looks worse to us than them usually.....underneath while incubating the eggs it can get over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Question regarding the enclosure: How many eagles live here. I thought I counted five, one possibly being a juvie.

Is there a place to read a description of the injuries to and/or reasons why these eagles are not releasable? (is that a word?)

I am not sure I have their identities correct, but at 5:00pm Savannah returned to take over nest duties from Derek. He hopped to the ground, then up on the angle perch, then to the platform.

Savannah settled down without touching the eggs. Then stood and turned to face left and settled again. Two eggs were visible. She did not turn them, just settled down on them.

Savannah stood up, turned, and readjusted the two eggs, didn't seem to roll them, but pulled grasses up on them (I read that there are three eggs, but so far I have only seen two at one time.)

Hi BET,

Thank you for the pictures and observation.

If their information is current, then CRC has seven eagles. This link gives a profile on each eagle, including Savannah and Derek: http://www.carolinaraptorcenter.org/resident.php#res2" rel="nofollow">"Resident Raptors"

Saw Savannah first call-out at 7:39am. Once Derek was on the nest at 8:10 am, he rolled the eggs before he settled-in to incubate. Again Savannah went to the ground, to the cross-bar and then to the platform. As you can see in the 2nd picture, it is Savannah's left wing that was injured.

Thanks for the pictures, CAL and BET - interesting that the snow seems to be staying longer in NC than in WV - though the main part of the nest is clear.

I don't remember seeing more than two eggs either, BET - but I sometimes can't see any, so I suspect the nest cup is quite deep. It's day 30 for the first egg, so we should know in a week or two!

Two humans arrived in the enclosure with buckets. I assume food!. All the eagles but one took off to parts unknown, including Mom.

Eggs Visible.

Closer Look at Eggs. Might be the third one is cross ways in front of the two.
