Glad you all enjoyed the stick sequence. I enjoyed watching it while it happened and was glad I was able to capture the action.

Regarding the nest off of the ground. I would not think that would be a good idea. It would allow cold air to sweep under and penetrate the nest bowl. Think bridges being icy while the roads are just wet. The ground itself would stay warmer. Snow is also an insulator and helps maintain warmth. Think of snow caves that lost skiers are taught to build to save themselves from freezing. The nest in the photos reminds me of a dog's whelping box. A big square built by 2 x 12 s and filled half way with dirt and mulch. Should drain quickly - like a raised flower bed. I hope it will maintain heat.

You're welcome BET, Grin

It's so wonderful to be able to see that Savannah and Derek get around as well as they do; that they still get the feeling of flight somewhat while going back and forth from nest to ground, to the crossbar and then to the platforms.

Savannah has beautiful wings. Wub

Good morning, Smile

7:43 a.m. EST,
Parent switch: Derek on the nest. Savannah leaves the nest, goes to the ground, to the cross-bar and then up to the left platform, as usual. Derek takes incubating/brooding duty. Soggy morning.
