Discussion, Observations, Screenshots & Videos - Lafarge Vancouver Bald Eagle Nest
2011/12 Nesting Season
NOTE:
This thread is for Discussion, Observations, Screenshots & Videos solely related to actions / events / occurrences at the Lafarge Nest.
Screenshots and photos and/or links to videos are welcome in this thread as part of the discussion. We welcome all screenshots and videos of the Lafarge Nest captured via the webcams.
As a courtesy to viewers with slower internet connections, please limit the pictures in each post to no more than a total of 150,000 bytes (4 to 6 average screenshots), and please do not post animations (though it's fine to post a link to them) - and if you would limit the smileys - that would be lovely!
Here is a map showing the relative positions of the Vancouver area nests.

Significant Dates - 2011-2012 Nesting Season
1st egg laid: March 13, maybe 7:05 pm (was March 16 in 2011)
2nd egg laid: March 16, about 7:35 pm
3rd egg laid: not sure if egg was laid - 3rd hatch April 24 - counting back Makes March 19 as probable date egg was laid.
1st Hatch 19th Apr - just before 3pm - by a process of elimination; confirmed 20th Apr, 1 pm
2nd Hatch 21st Apr - In the early hours
3rd Hatch 24th Apr - late afternoon However, the first glimpse of the bashful chick wasn't spotted until a video of an early morning feeding on the 25th was posted.
June 19, 2012 our three chicks were officially named by a class of elementary school children: Hello to Sky, Starlet, and Sorrior : forum/viewtopic.php?topic=383148#383148
1st Fledge: July 14, 8:01 am (86 days); first flight 16 seconds - nice loop around the tree, returning to the upper branches
2nd Fledge: July 19, about 10:00 am (89 days); it's possible that there was a second fledge before this, but this is the first time that we saw two eaglets flying, and the first time we were sure there was only one in the nest tree
3rd Fledge: July 26th, at 6:19 am. (93 days); This eaglet took longer than usual to fledge.
For identification of parents: Ma has the lighter feathers...greyish. Pa is much darker....feathers almost black

First sighting by Bob D. on September 30:
Quote by: Bob D.Hi everyone...back from summer etc.
Just sitting here looking out my window and either Ma or Pa (I think Pa)..has just returned from wherever...sans babies...looks in great shape. Sitting up in the artificial nest now on the perch preening away. Pa or Ma should be back soon as well....out now...bd.

Exciting! Thanks Bob and JudyB!
They have stolen my heart for sure in the last 2 seasons.
I came for the eagles, and stayed for the friends I made

2:43pm Someone is on the lower right side of the nest (at what I call the container corner)

3:07pm I noticed ~2-3 minutes ago that the adult was gone from the container corner. Don't see it anywhere else either.
