3:53 pm

I think this is Savannah.

Every other time I've seen an eagle in the nest bowl today, after a second look, it's turned out to be Derek - and I know they're a well-bonded pair, but doubt that he's going to lay the eggs for her.

I wish they'd zoom in a little bit - can't tell if she's looking poofy or having contractions.

3:56 pm
This might be it - looked as if she was holding her neck out as if straining.

Now she's up digging in the nest bowl - don't think there's an egg, so maybe she was just practicing.

4:04 pm
Now she's back standing in the nest bowl. Derek has come over and is perched on the edge of the nest structure. (Unless I've confused them)

The proud Mom is gently rolling it around, and Dad Derek has been by for a look. He was pacing around the edge of the box while she was doing the actual laying.

And now she's beginning to incubate.

Hi Mary and eaglet - glad you're here! (And sorry you missed the event, eaglet - but there wasn't a lot to see.)

It does look as if she's not quite sure what to do with it, and if she circles the nest bowl many more times, she's going to wear a hole in it! Wub

I know they do wait a little bit for the egg to harden before they begin to incubate, but it does seem to be taking her a bit longer than some.

4:40 pm
Savannah is incubating her egg.

5:07 pm

She was up and calling for a few minutes, and is now settled in again after tucking some of the "fluff" around the egg.

I checked the Savannah Eagle facebook page and found the following:
"At 4:07 pm, Savannah Eagle laid the first egg of the 2012 nesting season. “She had been kind of stooping over the nest bowl for a while when we saw it for the first time,” said Kelsey Hoke, Visitor Experience Manager. “I’m so excited! This is my first eagle season.” Bald eagle eggs are a dull white color and don’t have any other distinctive markings. The shape is “rounded ovate” similar to a domestic goose egg. There is no shine to the surface of the egg."

So the official time is 4:07 pm!
