I remember Doug - we had chatted awhile back about my 3rd grade class and you said you would be willing to answer some questions they might have. I have been so excited by their interest and knowing you taught, it is something in common. I teach the students in Oostburg Wisconsin. I would love to hear that maybe you could chat a bit with my class. You have been such an inspriation after I have been sharing your book with the kids, and the great things about the nest and wonderful Ma & Pa Hornby. If I ever had a chance I would love to come to the island to visit. I know this is more directed to you Doug and I say hello to everyone but am hoping I get some info from Doug. I wish I knew if there was another way to get in touch if you, I hope you and your wife are good and continue to enjoy your retirement.

Hey jacx! We're hoping Doug will pop in at some time and give us the low down on the happenings on Hornby...especially Ma and Pa. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to chat with your class!

From all indications, a chicklet hatched sometime yesterday. We witnessed Pa bringing in a fish, and Ma appearing to be feeding a little someone. Of course, we can't see into the nest to be sure, but all indicators are that there is.

Hornby Weather

Hi nightowl and everyone.....Doug said that I could announce the name of the first chick is "Elizabeth" after Elizabeth May, the first Green Party member ever to win a seat in the Canadian parliament. She is the member for Saanich and the Islands, just north of Victoria. We are looking for the second chick to hatch any day now. Its name will be "Rafe" after Rafe Mair, a retired politician and talkshow personality who has devoted many years fighting for the wild salmon (like Alexandra Morton) and for all aspects of the environment. He said "We now have four eaglets and chicks reminding all watchers that a healthy environment is important to them and is also important to us. The four eaglets and chicks are Alexandra and David (Suzuki) from last year and now Elizabeth and Rafe from this year." Good news, eh! (lefty) Darward

I was just wondering last night when Doug was going to announce the names. Elizabeth and Rafe, what beautiful names for our Hornby royalty!

Thanks Vic - I think Doug has chosen well for our newest eagle babes - Elizabeth and (when he gets here) Rafe.
