Little Kopit

Mom has thicker neck.

But the biggest tipoff for Mom is that she has lots of feathers on her legs, often fly away feathers, it seems.

1:25 pm nest time: The wind has really picked up. Mom is keeping babies warm!

I'm not sure what has happened today to the picture quality on this cam. Mad I can just barely see the two chicks in the nest bowl.

I think the problem is that the nest is in very deep shadow at the time of your s'cap, Mary.

That's very true, Terry but for some reason the cam doesn't seem to be as clear as it was a few days ago aside from the shadow. sigh sign

ETA...I see over the last two pages that some of the scaps are pretty grainy and others are quite good. Puzzled

BET...Your pictures and observations showing Mom inserting her beak between the dueling bobbleheads was quite interesting! I have never seen that happen in any other raptor nest...at least not while I was watching. Very interesting!!! Left thumb up

Just watched a 4PM feeding..only saw one eaglet moving during the feeding. The other seemed to be lying in front of the active one.

Mom settled back down on the nest right after the feeding before giving us a good look at the nest bowl.

Bad news. Around 509 pm Geoff gave following message on chat, I don't understand the reference to a pidgin.

Edit: The chatters think it is S1 that passed but because the chick that was being fed a little earlier was so wet and dirty looking, it's hard to say.

About 5PM nest time
It's official from one of the researchers for this nest. Apparently during heavy rain at the nest this afternoon a pidgeon was put into the nest bowl by a parent and quite possibly it suffocated one of the chicks....poor little bobblehead!! sad What a bad year this has been in eagle land all over the world! :cry1:

This is from the chat thread from the moderators......they think it was the first hatched chick!

:08 ghutcho: I am sorry to say but your fears have been legalised. Yes we think one of the chicks is dead. Looking at all the evidence we believe that it has suffocated on the nest.

2:09 ghutcho: When the pidgin found its way into the nest hollow we think that the chick may have ended up face down.
