Hello Castor, Junie wave

Woo Hoo! 2 eggs Wub

9:17 AM Here is one of the Hawks leaving the nest. The female will return in 10 minutes:

That was fairly quick. She came to the nest around 9:30 AM Eastern Time, and by 10:15 AM I think I caught the first glimpse. But it wasn't until the mate showed up at 10:40 that she got up and revealed both eggs. He sat for a bit, but then he flew off too!

Between the weather and lighting, the scaps aren't as clear today Sad

Now that the formel is in full incubation mode, it'll be helpful to be able to tell them apart through the window! Here are 3 scaps that show some things to look for.

The formel (sitting on her eggs) has a more prominent black bar on her tail, more zig-zaggy white through her wings, and a white line down the middle of her tail. And her head has a smooth/blended brown color.

The tiercel has more white streaks on his head, less white in the wings, and the black bar on his tail isn't very prominent. From the front, his belly is white, with just a hint on brown on the edges (whereas her 'necklace' is much more pronounced).

This time she took him up on his offer to tend to the eggs while she ate lunch elsewhere. She carried it off in her talons as he watched her fly off.
