10:31pm.............Mom has woken up, rearranged herself and some straw and has now nestled down over the egg, covering it up completely.

I noticed that mom is not quite covering the egg with her body at 9:44pm. Is there a reason for this or do you think that she just doesn't know? I wonder what effect this might have on the egg. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Dawn in South Korea

Hi Dawn - Glad your enjoying the beautiful White Rock nest. Not incubating full-time would be intentional and is evident on all nests with multiples, this keeps the development of the chicks closer together. After she's laid the 2nd egg (I'll assume we won't see three), you'll notice the incubation time increases. There is a technical term for it but I can't remember -- Hatching synchrony?

Well done Mamma WR Cloud 9 You even remembered to compensate for the leap year! Fantastic to watch.

Pardon my lack of memory...is this the nest that had the three chicks last year....one really small and the larger one that was rescued after having fishing line wrapped around it 's leg? Thanks.

NO, Honeybee it isn't. That nest was on Vancouver Island. Those eagles moved their nest this year and we were unable to get a camera into their new home. (Sidney Nest) We still have some ground observers in the vicinity of that nest who will try to keep us up to speed with what they are doing.

Thanks for that...I didn't think it was but none of the other camera names seemed familiar enough to be that nest. Now, I understand.
