Also Known As - Pot Plant Owl
A spotted eagle owl (known as Pot Plant Owl) is a shining example of how animals and birds have had to adapt to man's urbanization and destruction of their natural habitat. With trees and other natural flora being cut down to accommodate the growth of the sprawling metropolis of Johannesburg, Pot Plant Owl was forced to leave its natural nesting habitat and find sanctuary in a pot plant on the balcony of a suburban home. On the 21st of August she laid 3 eggs in the pot plant that have now hatched. Africam feels this is an important story to tell, so we are putting these owls and their unorthodox nest LIVE on the internet for all to see, 24/7 with night vision and sound.

Pot Plant Owl Fast Facts
I am a spotted eagle owl
Due to urbanization in Johannesburg, and the cutting down of the surrounding trees and natural flora, I was forced to nest in a potted plant on the balcony of a house in Johannesburg South Africa.
My nesting season is August - December.
On the 21st August I laid the first of 3 eggs for 2010
I have my own Blog that you can follow HERE - Owl Blog
You can watch me and my 3 chicks live HERE - Owl Cam
This intro obtained from their excellent Page on Africam - Potplantowl
2010 Season
- eggs laid: August 16; August 20; August 22
- hatched: September 20; September 21; September 23
- named: Jelani ("the mighty one" ), Indie (after Indiana Jones, because of its fondness for exploring), and Teeny (because it was much smaller for quite a while)
- fledged: November 4; November 6; November 12

It is nice to have night vision for this cam - and the young owls do seem to already be up and about in the night!

We've added this cam to the Live Cams page to make it easier to find, and have made the picture a little larger.
Enjoy!

Adult just arrived. I'm not sure if he or she brought food - but the chicks were sure actively watching as he/she approached!

Hi Judy and Pat,
When I got the link to this cam yesterday, I went to it and instantly fell in love with these little owlets. There were only two in there yesterday I think but the one from rehab is now there I see. Just what I need, another bunch to watch and love

Hi!
looks to be about 2:30AM there and there is no adult at home. The babes are calm and likely sleeping.
I came for the eagles, and stayed for the friends I made
