As a courtesy to viewers with slower internet connections, please limit the pictures in each post to no more than a total of 150,000 bytes (150KB), and please do not post animations (though it's fine to post a link to them). To avoid horizontal scrolling, please do not post pictures that are more than 500 pixels wide - though it's fine to post a 500-pixel-wide thumbnail that clicks to a much larger p/Users/Hydrangea/Desktop/screenshot_03.jpgicture. The forum attachment software conveniently handles that task - so you can attach larger pictures, and a properly-sized clickable image will appear in your post. The preferred format for pictures is JPEG (.jpg), and three 500-pixel-wide JPEGs should be under the 150KB limit...

All of us here at HWF would like to thank Berry College for letting us see a this wonderful view into the life of their resident bald eagles. The eagles have set up a massive nest just behind the school's athletic center. This is the first documented nest in the modern history of Floyd County, Georgia and the first nest in Georgia with a camera---three cams in fact!.and I would like to thank Mary F for pulling together much of this information for our opening posts!

Some nest history ~~~

Eagles had been reported in the vicinity of the campus for several years. The eagles had attracted the attention of photographers and others statewide. Students and faculty flocked to the site to catch a glimpse of the majestic couple.

A Few Berry College Updates 2017

August 24, 2017:

While Georgia Power was in the nest installing the new cameras, the nest was measured. The nest has increased in depth by 8 inches to 44 inches and remains at 83 inches diameter at its widest point. To give you a sense of scale, thatís larger than a king size bed (which is 76 inches wide by 80 inches long)! As well, no fishing line was found in the nest this year as opposed to 2015 when a large amount of line was found. The recycled fishing line program started by Berry College is working! Read more about it the efforts in this 2016 article here: http://bit.ly/1SVHohx

September 12, 2017:

Thankfully, our eagle nest weathered the storms and came through just fine! We are still experiencing rainy weather here at Berry, but thus far, no major damage to campus or our nest tree. If you are / were in the path of Hurricane Irma, stay safe out there!

Update on our female eagle:
September 13, 2017:

As was noted in the eagle cam stream yesterday, our female eagle is having trouble with her previously injured left leg. Our experts have reviewed the video of our female eagle. They noted that the eagles are wild animals and that this a part of the course of nature. The leg injury is not going to keep the eagle from flying unless it cannot get the nutrition it needs to sustain. We will stay in touch with our experts as the season progresses.

The 2017-2018 season started with a post by crayj 46 on Sept.1.

Dad showed up a little more than a week ago, moved some sticks. Mom came to the nest tonight closely followed by Dad, she is limping and not putting much weight on her leg. a juvie visited the nest 3 times this evening just before the adults flew in...

Look here for the beginning of all posts and they will be continued here on this new nest thread for 2017... 2018
