Ancient eagle put down

POSTED: SATURDAY, APRIL 23, 2016 4:30 AM
By Mike Koshmrl Jackson Hole Daily
Wildlife rehabilitators at the Teton Raptor Center this week made the call to euthanize a 34-year-old bald eagle that had been in their care after the bird took a turn for the worse.

Banded for research in Jackson Hole in 1982, the female eagle known as BAEA 3.12.16 was the third-oldest member of her species ever documented in the wild.

Initially it was believed the eagle had been hit by a vehicle, but the gradual exacerbation of her injuries later led the Teton Raptor Center to believe she had been electrocuted by a power line.
