wave Hi Karen!
Too funny, yes it would indeed keep us hopping!!!

I haven't seen that sub adult again down at the TB nest area, but we are still seeing other youngens coming back to their natal nesting territory! This is very common for this time of year, and as the number of offspring increases year after year, we see more and more youngens hanging around!

Here is a shot of the first sub adult that I spotted a few weeks ago and shared the story with you about the interaction it had with Liberty...

I mean this eagle looked so much like Liberty it was unbelievable!!! Except for that dark marking along the edge of the tail feathers and a little dark around the eyes, it could be Liberty's double! Shawna & Mo were up from the Bay Area and they spotted this eagle as they drove by Saturday morning 12/9/16 and they texted me to tell me Liberty was on Dead Tree! I got down there as quick as I could and at first I thought it looked like Liberty too, but there was something with the eyes that didn't look quite right to me? Then, it lifted it's wings up & I could see mottling underneath & the dark edge along the tail feathers! I knew then it was a sub adult & not Liberty!

Then, when the "real" Liberty showed up on the Christmas Tree, I thought to myself, "Well, this is going to be interesting!"Titter

And, it did get interesting alright!

The sub adult lifted off from Dead Tree and flew over the highway bridge and tried to land next to Mama Liberty on the Christmas Tree!!!

Well, Miss Liberty was not having any of that!

Here's the Sub Adult lifting off of Dead Tree...

The sub adult eagle flew around the Christmas Tree a few times and then headed over and landed in Liberty's old nest!!! Liberty took off and chased it out of the nest and around the trees a few times and she landed above the nest & the sub adult went back to it's perch on Dead Tree...

After 20 minutes or so, Liberty took off and headed south toward her new nest area at the Riverview and then the Sub Adult eagle flew over and landed in the nest again!!!
