Dad is on the nest and you can see that the eaglets are much bigger than they look when they are alone--feathers coming in more since yesterday

Dad dug up some kind of nestover and it was lunch time! E2 got everything over on that side of the nest while E2 waited patiently

Clever Dad dragged lunch to the other side of the nest and fed E2--E1 later caught on and charged over there, bonked E2 and ate the rest---naughty bird!!

From Sandra Hunt- von Arb ~~~

WE ARE BANDING TODAY! EAGLETS NAMED TODAY!

We thank everyone involved for taking a holiday day to come together and band E1 and E2! If all goes according to schedule, Jim should be climbing up the tree around 10 am--- well, maybe a little later, as we're probably arriving at the property around 10. grin emoticon

ALSO- we can announce the names of the eaglets HOOLET and NUGGET! As it is ever more difficult to tell E1 from E2- we will name them based on which leg is banded. Congratulations to Ms. Killmer's and Ms. Rice's classes!

--------------

Banded Right leg: HOOLET

Teacher name: Elizabeth Kilmer
Class/Grade: 7th/8th
School: New Life Christian School, Fortuna CA

We chose “Hoolet” because it's a local Yurok name. The Yuroks are related to the Wiyots on whose land our bald eagles live. Hoolet means “Ones that fly in the sky”. Although it sounds a little like a name for an owl, we think it's appropriate for a large bird that hunts.

--------------

Banded Left leg: NUGGET

Teacher name: Suzanne Rice
Class/Grade: 1st
School: Ridgewood School, Eureka, CA

The best name for the eaglet is Nugget. One reason is, the the eaglet is as small as a nugget. Another reason is, Nugget is a really adorable name for the adorable, little eaglet. Last but not least, I want the name Nugget to win the contest. Obviously, Nugget is the best name for the eaglet.

Two pictures from the ground courtesy of Sandra Hunt von Arb --

This little one who is not enjoying the bag is "Nugget", the younger, smaller male eaglet

This one with the "what the heck?" look on her face is "Hoolet" the larger, first hatched female--love the look!!
