Savannah took a very short break at 7:07am; my view was of only two eggs but it was not quite daylight at that time.

I just discovered a news story about the nest:

Live Eagle Cam Returns with 3 Eggs in Savannah's Nest - it's on the WCNC web site, though I found it through Google.

It said that the first egg was discovered on January 5, and the others several days later - which would make the most likely hatching date for the first egg February 9-14.

They also said her eggs didn't hatch in 2009, and they suspect they may have become chilled when temperatures dipped into the low teens. The Carolina Raptor Center staff built a new nest for the pair this year - with insulation to help them through the chilly spells.

I'm going to speculate a bit and guess the eggs were laid the 5th, 8th and 11th, as three days apart seems the most common interval. And while I don't know as much about southern eagles, it seems that the first egg in 3-egg nests often takes 39-40 days to hatch - so perhaps we'll have a valentine chick! love

Thank you for the s'cap and observation, jkr; This is best view yet of Derek. Grin

Thank you for the news article and the udate on eggs, JudyB. Glad to know there is some insulation on the nest for Savannah since the weather may be turning soon.

Savannah has been quite vocal today. Pics are 4:10 and 4:16 pm.
