Thanks for the pictures, eaglet999 - they are so cute at this age! love

I'm already behind on posting pics and there's only one nest with chicks - this may not be a good thing.... Titter

Here's the slideshow for yesterday - 15 pics

One of the things I noticed today is how active the older chick is. She (making a guess because the older chick is female a bit more than half of the time) would pop out from under the adult from time to time, and there were a couple of times I was concerned about the younger chick, because he (making the same sort of guess based on the law of averages) would be lying there while the older chick was looking all around and (perhaps) making a plan for escaping from the nest bowl! The younger one was indeed active and feisty much of the time - but did need a few more naps than the older!

They are only two days apart in age - but that really is a big difference when one is 6 and the other is 4 (days). The older one will be a week old tomorrow - which is the age at which they seem to start trying to explore more of the nest, and the age at which they begin to spend more time leaning against the adult rather than being actively brooded.

I also noticed that they spent a lot of time apparently alone. Occasionally an adult was visible - and I'm guessing the adult was never far, and the weather was likely warm. But they were uncovered quite a bit - though not as much as it would appear from today's slideshow. Mom is a beautiful eagle, but more than one picture of her brooding the chicks might seem repetitive.

Here are a couple of my favorite pictures from today - first, look at the big beak!

And eager little buddies, waiting for lunch

And here's today's slideshow - 16 pics

Great pictures, CAL - and isn't it fun to see the cycle start again! Smile

One of the things I noticed today is that the older chick was spending a lot more time beside Mom, rather than underneath being brooded.

I haven't really seen any rivalry - and both are looking great!

Happy Hatch Day to #1 - she's one week old today! Smile

Just realized I'm posting pretty big pictures - if this is a problem for anyone who would like to view this thread, please PM me and I'll scale them back a little. Must confess that I hadn't thought about the fact that pictures from the slideshow don't scale automatically the way attachments do.

Both eaglets were fed; no rough stuff from Big Sis (?) that I could see. Parent left the nest bowl (out of view) at 1:00 pm. Not certain how long they appeared to be alone (computer froze).

3:24 pm, Beautiful Mom is brooding; she has a good supply of food on the nest. Smile
