Thanks for that amazing story. They have some excellent photography to enhance the story. Hope we can stay tuned to find out where they are settled and how things work out for these two lovebirds.

For the disabled and captive eagles, Derek and Savannah, and all the viewers who watch this cam and love this pair it was a bittersweet season. It started well with watching the sometimes hilarious and always amusing antics of Savannah and Derek as they prepared their nest box. Eggs were laid, beautiful fuzzy bobbleheads were hatched love and then the unthinkable happened....we lost one of the babies. We really don't know why as the necropsy showed no cause of death. The remaining eaglet, later named Kinsey, seem to thrive under the watchful eye of her Dad and the care of her sometimes bossy Mom. The day we finally dreaded came when Kinsey was removed to her hacking tower to finish growing and eventually be released into the wild. Fortunately she had the company of two other, slightly older eaglets. Eventually the day that we looked forward to with both joy and dread came when the gate to Kinsey's freedom was opened. Good work Savannah, Derek, and the Carolina Raptor Center....another beautiful eagle flying free!! God speed Kinsey!!!! Red Heart

Eggs laid: Jan 25th and Jan 28th

Eggs hatched: March 4th (37 days) and March 5th (36 days)

Younger chick (LB) died March 31st (26 days old)

Kinsey moved to hacking tower April 21st (48 days old)

Fledged possibly May 20th (77 days old)
