Hey Pat, Bev, Donna, and Starr! wave

Yep, I'm eagerly awaiting Ma and Pa's return, as I'm sure you all are. Grin I anticipate a great season this year. Nodding yes The salmon runs were fantastic, so that will help with fertility, and get them off to a good nesting season...but I still hope for only one chicklet this year. The sibling rivalry thang always worries me. BUT...we will wait and see what happens! Only Ma, Pa, and Mother Nature knows what's in store for us and Hornby this year.

Great s'caps Bev and Starr! love

If you didn't see this on the FB whatsit on the cam page, I'll post it here....

Eaglets to be released on Wednesday

.by Hornby Eagles on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 2:50pm.

The eaglets who have been in rehab at MARS and NIWRA will be released tomorrow at 11 A.M. at the Big Qualicum River Campsite on Vancouver Island. http://www.qualicumfirstnation.com/

You are welcome to attend. We hope to have video and pictures from the release.

Maj Birch chose this area rather than releasing them on Hornby Island because it is known that there are a lot of fish in the river and there are still many eagles there. The eaglets will be able to learn to forage well and learn from the other eagles, a very good thing for them. Their rehab bands will be removed before release.

When Maj goes to pick up the eaglets for release, she will transfer Decker to NIWRA. Word is that he is strong and healthy, with lots of energy and a great appetite (he prefers meat over fish). However, it is possible that issues with his feathers will keep him in rehab until March or so.

~NancyM and AJL

From what I understand, Decker is a very enthusiastic flyer and has done a bit of damage to his new tail feathers...which is why the transfer to NIWRA at this point. With the larger flight cage, they hope to minimize the damage. Left thumb up

I thought this would be a good story for all those beautiful people that go out of their way to rescue eagles
