While a common wood nymph butterfly
Tries to scare off predators
With its fake eyespots!

It's amazing what can be seen
If you're alert and observant.
Spotting a blue heron
Among the cattails
Only to discover
That it's one of a pair!

This morning's top three sightings ...

A mother song sparrow
With a treat for her young.
Can you tell what she's holding?

A well camouflaged dragonfly,
But which kind?

A painted turtle,
But can you tell
How big it might be?

A turkey vulture flies overhead
At Elizabeth Lake.

The first cricket of the summer
Hops across the trail,
Then stays still
To avoid detection.

It's unusual to see a fawn
In the middle of the day.
But then it's spooked
And runs off to find shelter.

There's usually something interesting to see
