Kay, those pictures are spectacular. I want to be there, see the snow and all the beauty - they just draw you in when you look at them. The "eagle tree" is really neat.

elle wave yes, we saw wombats, but only at the Australia Zoo. At first I didn't even know what they were . This one lumbered across the grass and walked right over to where we were standing at the fence. He started digging the sand out from an already started hole. After working for a bit he used his right hip to scoop some of the sand out as he backed out. Fascinating to watch! Titter They are big, bigger than a large raccoon and have short stubby legs.

Kay love, your photos are lovely :thumrht:. I've heard about the Snowy Owls on the news, they've been in the Boudary Bay area for awhile now. The last 3 phtotos of the one preening are adorable Nodding yes. I was over on the mainland last week as well, there are a lot of eagles around right now.

Sandra, it must have been funny watching the Wombat digging the hole. Your pics are great :thumrht:

I stood and watched this one particular Snowy Owl on Friday, cleaning, preening and yawing. It was very busy indeed! Click bigger.

Sandra: The fellow on the wombat show was cradling one in his arms and it was enormous! He said if you blow gently at their noses it puts them to sleep and he did it and it worked! It was so funny. But I absolutely fell in love with it , buck teeth and all. They have " backward " pouches so they don't get dirt in there when they are digging. I love nature!
Camera has some disappointing drawbacks but it is mostly good. If used to full advantage it can't be beat for the price.

elle, thanks for mentioning the backward pouches, I had forgotten that...amazing how Mother Nature takes care of her creatures. And, I didn't know about about blowing on their noses Smile. When I assisted in hummingbird banding a couple of years ago I learned about them going in a torpor (sleep). When the banding was complete we held them in the palm of our hands and gently blew on them to wake them up. Once awake they immediately flew away. I
I'm about to post some pics and info about another amazing little animal....the Pademelon....stay tuned, I'll be right back Smile.
