3 of the chicks decided not to follow the "tume" into the dry pen. It took a bit of time to coax all 3 in but eventually all were safely enclosed in the pens.

2 came in quickly but one really liked it out along the side of the pen.

This video shows one of the chicks bathing.

Unfortunately there are ads before the video and the bathing part begins about the 1:00 mark.

Hi all
just thought you would like to know that our 8 whooper chicks are settling in really well to their summer digs.
they have full access to the wet pen now and are loving the water.
each morning at sunrise central time they have been training with the ultralight , following well and showing not a scrap of concern about the big wing they just met this week. although they are too young to fly they are spreading their wings beautifully and one even has had his feet off the ground, there is also one who likes to wander into the marsh a little,
always one in everybunch
looking foreward to meating you in chat

I too would love to have all who come by to check out the Whooping Crane cam and chat. There is so much good information about the Operation Migration Project and the Whooping Cranes shared on chat. I would encourage you to try to watch a training. It has been starting just after 5:30 a.m. cdt.

Training this morning was not as cohesive as usual. #1 and 2 decided not to join the other at the beginning and were wanderers for awhile. They eventually joined the others. There were some good bonding times with "tume" and Yellow Mama though. The trike, Yellow Mama, and the "tume" are the key to this program since the chicks will be following Yellow Mama in the fall in the migration to Florida. Because the connection of the "tume" and the trike, the evening check on the chicks is quick. After the training and a quick pen check the tumes went to the blind. They may have had an interview or there may have been guests in the blind watching the training. There is a way to make reservations on Operation Migration's home page.
