My local Coopers pair have got hawklets again this year - two so far but I'm looking for a third.

My Coopers are really developing fast - after another week they're already losing their secondary down. The Coopers at the Saskatchewan Science Centre now have 5 hawklets.

What a beautiful picture, ostrich! And wonderful to hear that all three fledged. Thanks for keeping us updated on their progress!

I've been doing as much observing of the fledglings as I can - I believe this year there are two females and one male.



I've also been recording footage regularly - there has been some exciting stuff the last couple of weeks. Here is some of the footage (and if you go to my page on YT you can find earlier ones as well.

There was quite a lot of action in the nest area starting with a food delivery by the male and the female with the prey on the large tree stump, followed by probably about 20min of hawklets getting the food and trying to either eat or defend against pirating attempts.

In the next part of the sequence the prey got dropped on the ground under the nest.

The last part of the sequence one of the hawklets had managed to retrieve the prey and carry it back up onto a branch.

All of the hawklets look like they've dispersed now - I haven't seen any around in about a week and a half. Fare well young hawks.

I am sorry i have not had much time to enjoy this family....so many families to follow on the forum its indeed hard to watch them all.
