Our new Discussion Forum - and other updates

Wildlife NewsThe news that we have a discussion forum seems to have leaked out - and I've changed it from its original URL (test-discuss...) to its permanent place at discuss.hancockwildlifechannel.org even though it is still tagged with a blinking "test" - and will be for a day or two while we get some buggs worked out.

Along the way there have been a number of bobbles of various kinds, not the least of which is that the whole domain that you are supposed to be reading this under was changed at the last moment from just archive.hancockwildlife.org to the one you are supposed to be using now which is www.hancockwildlifechannel.org (and the above mentioned "discuss" sub-domain of it)

All this has meant that some people are having a bit of a problem with staying logged into the discussion forum (clear your browser's cookies) and others are a bit confused because links they've created don't quite work right.

Sorry for all that, really. Read on for more

As you've probably guessed by now, our working with Infotec has not continued past the initial nest season. We've agreed to part ways, and I want everyone to know that this has not ruined any friendships, it's just a fact of business.

I've been busy the past weeks arranging for new hosting systems and getting them ready - and moving things like gigabytes of video clips and such, getting new cameras for the nests (more later) and generally working at max speed just trying to keep things from decaying into mush.

We've also moved the Hancock House Publishing sites and most of my other customers to new machines currently located in New York. The machines are in New York for no other reason than that the company they're hosted at made a good case for their services being better for the price than others I'd looked into. In fact we're still looking for people/companies to help us with the major part of our streaming video if they can. We'll do it ourselves if we must, but I'll be looking like a very worn-out skeleton by the time we get it done if we have to :)

Along the way I've added another person to my team - I welcome Suzanne back into the fold. Suzanne was one of our staff at our first internet company back in 1994 - Wimsey.com (Canada's first commercial internet company) and I was working with her at another company a couple of years ago too. You'll see some of her work in things like ads and logos and such but she is also a very skilled programmer.

So, please bear with us as we grow and evolve.

Hi Richard! I have to thank you again for all your hard work on our behalf. This new site is certainly evolving on a minute-by-minute basis, and it is all good! I love the "logo", in fact I have it on my "Do not disturb ... on break" sign for when I am on eagle time!

So keep up the good work.

PS I would love to see the nestcam on when the eagles start rebuilding! Who ever knew that eagles were so completely captivating? They got me years ago when I saw a short video of a parent feeding a chick -- with such absolute devotion and care -- an unforgettable memory, and now thanks to you all I have a whole library of unforgettable memories -- with available videos & photos of our own eagles to boot! Astonishing and wonderful, and I thank you all again.

Thank you, Richard, for all of your good work and dedication and for giving us an experience of a lifetime. I know many of us are changed because of it. I, for one, see eagle behavior in many living things now. Funny how similar we all are.

Welcome back, Suzanne!
